Old capital Tainan

Hey there,

after eating our breakfast at the hotel we took the TRA express train to Tainan which took us 45 min and cost 80 NTD. Tainan was the island's capital from 1683 to 1887.

After arriving we walked to our new hotel and left our bags. Until now every hotel allowed us to leave our bags, which is very convenient, since then you can explore the city even if the check in is not possible until later in the day or when you already have checked out but stay a little longer in the city.

Tainan often is compared to Kyoto. We've been to Kyoto ourselves and initially I didn't understand the comparison, since Tainan is very different in many ways. However, what is similar is the sheer amount of temples. In both cities you can walk a couple of meters and see multiple temples.
For lunch we stopped at a Japanese restaurant for some rice bowls with beef.

First we walked to the Confucius temple, unfortunately it was under construction, so we didn't get to see the whole temple... But there was a little exhibition about the temple which we visited.

From there we more or less just randomly walked around. Which is also nice, since you often get to see the less touristy spots.

The five concubines temple

We happened to come across a tea shop with very nice clerks who gave us many teas to try before we ordered and finally we decided on one winter melon tea and one green tea with Yakult, which, according to the clerk, are specialties in Taiwan. The winter melon tea is very sweet (although the clerk said it had no added sugar) but had a very great taste. And the Yakult green tea tasted a little tart but very delicious.

After checking into our hotel we looked for something to eat for dinner and found a slightly more expensive restaurant where we ordered a vegetable noodle soup and a chicken and mushroom hot pot.

this cinema had painted billboards of the movies

That concludes this day.

Thank you for reading.

Pia
